The field is a ciné-poem: a multimedia exercise invented by Frederic Fichefet at the INSAS film school in Belgium. It is a montage of sounds and images based on a text, a novel by John Berger, from his book Ways of Seeing, 'Field'.
The images are taken from the Prelinger Archives, founded in 1983 by Rick Prelinger in New York City, consisting of a collection of over 60,000 'ephemeral' (advertising, educational, industrial, and amateur) films between 1950 and 1970.
