Food is Culture: Nominate Local Products to Join the Ark of Taste

Competition for European citizens launched today

The Food is Culture project is launching a new challenge: After the competitions for cooks and schoolchildren, here comes a chance for all European citizens to actively participate in a new contest. From today until March 15, 2020, everyone can nominate an emblematic food product from their local gastronomic traditions to board the Ark of Taste. This Slow Food initiative, a catalog of foods at risk of extinction that belong to the culture, history and traditions of the whole world currently has over 5,000 passengers.

Taking part is easy: just click here (https://www.fondazioneslowfood.com/en/what-we-do/the-ark-of-taste/nominations-from-around-the-world/nominate-a-product/) and provide as much information as possible about the food you've selected: its name, how it's used in the kitchen, how it's linked to local culture and history and the characteristics that make it unique. At the end of the campaign a panel will chose one exceptional product to be featured in an international Food is Culture exhibition dedicated to the Ark of Taste and biodiversity protection. The exhibition has been inaugurated in Stockholm before going on display in Belgrade from October 11 to 25, then traveling around European museums. The winner will have the chance to spend a weekend in the Langhe and Roero in northern Italy's Piedmont region.

The full regulations can be read here.

The Food is Culture project aims to raise awareness among European citizens about the importance of food heritage to their sense of belonging to Europe and to better understanding the wealth and uniqueness of European cultural diversity. All of us must pay more attention to safeguarding and promoting our food heritage. Slow Food has been working on this for many years, cataloguing at-risk foods from around the world in the Ark of Taste.

The Food is Culture project is being run by Slow Food in partnership with Kinookus, Transpond AB, Nova Iskra Creative Hub and Europa Nostra and is funded by the EU program Creative Europe, with a contribution from the Fondazione CRC in Cuneo, Italy.
